The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) challenged the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Bill in the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday (IHC).

The right to free speech is guaranteed under the Constitution, according to the lawsuit.

According to the petition, the media has been shut down throughout the current administration of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), with unannounced restrictions placed on journalists.

On the other side, the PECA amendment statute was also challenged in the LHC. The petitioner alleged that the PECA legislation was enacted to limit journalists’ freedom of expression.

According to the claimant, the government is enacting this regulation to fulfil its nefarious purposes.
