KARACHI: Five people have been suspended, including a security agency official, for torturing television personality and journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan in the Saddar district of the city yesterday, according to Geo News.

Officials tortured and beaten him during the taping of his show “Sar-e-Aam,” causing significant injuries. For treatment, he was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

His images went popular on social media, bringing the event to light. Five officials were accused of torture by Hassan. Later, the officials were placed on leave.

According to the police, neither Hassan nor the private channel’s administration filed a complaint with a police station seeking legal action, thus no action has been done by the police on their own.

The authorities who mistreated the anchorwoman were suspended on the same day the event occurred. Syed Moinuddin Rizwan Mehboob Ali, Rajab Ali, and Khawar are among the officers who have been suspended.

“It is not appropriate to take out fury on a journalist’s investigative piece,” the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) said, “but such cowardly action cannot stop a media from carrying out its duty.”
