ISLAMABAD : Judge Syed Mazahar All Akbar Naqvi of the Supreme Court is the subject of a complaint to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) alleging misconduct and abuse of power on his part.

Once Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah made an audio recording of an alleged discussion between the chief justice of the highest court and former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi public, Mr. Naqvi gained notoriety. The Pakistan Bar Council said that it will file a referral against Judge Naqvi as a result of the audio leaks.

According to the complaint, Justice Naqvi breached the “Code of Conduct for Judges of the Supreme Court promulgated under Clause (8) of Article 209 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” which was filed by high court attorney Mian Dawood. He said that throughout his tenure as a judge, the judge and members of his family had been discovered to have engaged in misconduct and the abuse of authority in a criminally intentional manner.

In line with Sub-Clause (b)of Clause (5) of Article 209 of the Pakistani Constitution, he remarked, “It is most humbly asked that an independent thorough enquiry be commenced against Mr. Judge Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi in light of the above-mentioned facts and information.”

Once the charges were verified, he urged that Justice Naqvi be fired as a SC justice.
