Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rahman issued the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 and the Punjab Agricultural Marketing Regulatory Ordinance Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 on Sunday.
The first ordinance was adopted by the governor in line with Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc). It was impractical to tell the Cabinet of any critical situation right away.
The Amendment Ordinance has reduced the legal criteria for executing Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in emergency situations. In an emergency, the Deputy Commissioner or any other officer specially authorised by the Punjab government may issue orders under Section 144 of the Amendment Ordinance.
